30 Days of List, March 14

Laying in bed thinking of what takes place tomorrow...my first born is getting married. He's a Texas boy, so hopefully they will be making their way back to Texas in a few years. They currently live in Boston. The grand kitty has already moved in with David, and my daughter, Janell, will be moving in after the honeymoon. I have to be at the wedding venue at 9am tomorrow, for a 5pm wedding. Give me strength!!!

As you must know, I am doing the 30 Days of Losts thing!!!  Today's heading is...

Favorite Treats When Traveling.

When we are on a road trip...we never eat somewhere that we could eat at at home. So, no McDonald's, Sonic, Jack in the Box, Wendy's, etc. we prefer mom & pop locations with customers!!! Or chain locations that are not available where we live.

When I was a kid, I remember getting Mountain Dews, they weren't available where we lived (and we never had cokes at home anyway!) (kinda funny, we still do not have cokes at home!)

So, back to my list!

1.  Starbucks, unsweet black, iced tea
2. M&Ms
3. Payday bar
4. An Icee
5. Turkey Jerky from Buc-ee's!

Well, maybe a little sleep, before tomorrow's wedding!

30 Days of Lists, March 13

Let's walk down memory lane. It is my understanding that I lived in 22 different locations my fist 2 years of life. My daddy was working the pipeline because Dow had laid him off in February 1958, just a month before I was born.

I was born in Livingston Texas. My brother was born in Clarksdale Mississippi when I was 22 months old. Again, dad was unemployed...the pipeline crew had moved on, but mom was too close to domino-ing. After my brother was born, we moved back to Livingston, and then dad was called back to Dow. We lived in 3 houses in Lake Jackson. The one I consider my childhood home was on Cherry Street. We moved there when I was in first grade. As part of this month's listing project, this is how I would...

Describe My Chdhood Home:

1. White, wooden house
2. Real wood floors
3. One bathroom, no shower
4. Wall heater
5. Pecan Tree
6. Wisteria vines on the fence
7. Big vegetable garden
8. Treehouse

Home...in my mind it is still home. I'd like to think I could go back home. Lots of friends have never left, but I've even lived in the cold and snowy Ohio and Michigan. Now I am on the north side of Houston. Maybe one day I will be back home...

30 Days of Lists, March 11

When I Need to Focus, I...

I try to find peace and quiet.
Sometimes I have to ask for quiet.
That doesn't always work.
Sometimes u have to raise my voice.
Even that dies not always work.
I may lose my temper.
That works about 50% of the time.

Focusing is best left for a time when I can be alone.

30 Days of Lists, March 10

Continuing on with the #30days of lists...

If I Ruled the World

1. I would of course make peace, not war.
2. I would encourage handcrafts and art for everyone.
3. I would teach cursive writing to all.
4. Foreign language would not only be encouraged, but expected, from birth.
5. I would put people to work on infrastructure. We seem to neglect it.
6. I would surround myself with those I could trust to make the right decisions for the people.

I don't really want to rule the world. My hair is already grey, and I have enough trouble trying to raise up my 24 year old twins, and the six year old grandson!!!

Some of my ideas may sound silly, but creativity is good for the soul!  Don't you agree?

Keep Calm and...

1. Triumph on
2. Chomp on

My grandson is a Gator. One of his school shirts this year said ...chomp on!
Quilt on...so obvious!
Marry...Saturday is the big day!!!

30 Days of Lists, March 7

Favorite Childhood Games

1. Monopoly
2. Jacks
3. Paper Dolls
4. Wish Sandwich Stands in the backyard treehouse.
5. Hide and Seek

We would play Monopoly games that lasted days. We sure got our money's worth from that game.

We played Jacks on the sidewalk in front of the house. It was a great game because you could play it with friends, or all by yourself.

Paper dolls!  Loved them. I kept them in a cereal box in one drawer of my dresser

We had a few lemonaide stands, but the best fun was wish sandwiches. Bread and Miracle a Whip. You wished you had some meat or cheese to put on it.

Hide and seek.  Day or night, boy did we have fun.

Those were the good ole days!

30 Days of Lists, March 6

It's my Birthday! !!  Woohoo!

Busy, busy day! Errands, Tanner, Open House, TBall practice and quilt guild meeting!

The listing fun today is just perfect for me since I have Adult Onset ADD. I have it bad!

Projects I am in the Middle of...

1. Ten years ago (at least), I stopped listing my quilt UFOs   In other words, when the list reached 100, I stopped counting (listing)

2. So many knitting projects too!  I have only been knitting 5 years, though, so less than the quilt projects!  The newest is a pair of boot cuffs. One almost done, one to go.

3. Wedding homework!  8 days til the wedding! I have 24 mason jars to decorate with burlap and lace, The kids game packs to package up and I should wrap up some gifts to help my daughter out too!

4. Always in the middle of documenting memories for the family.

Everything with me is a work in progress! Some things do have deadlines...like my oldest daughters wedding in EIGHT days, but so many things are open ended!  Not good for someone with AO-ADD! (See above)

Wreck This Girl Secret Pen pal Scavenger Hunt 2014

This winter I participated in a cool swap run by Wreck This Girl

 I  received a package

all the way from Australia!  So exciting. It had lots of little wrapped presents in it

Package number One

Contained a crocheted potholder by Katyha and an oven mitt with the flower of Australia in it.

Package number Two

An awesome kangaroo tote bag...how did Katyha know I was a bag lady??? And a wooden kangaroo puzzle. Tanner will love that puzzle.

Package number Three

Contained some stationary items...cards, envelopes, papers and some awesome Lego erasers!  (Something else I will have to share with my grandson Tanner!). Katyha confessed that she loves stationary bits!

Package number Four

Well, what can I say???  Chocolate!!  I do not have to share this with Tanner...it is gone, and it was delicious!!!

Package number Five

As described by Katyha...more stationary bits!  Photo frames, paper clips and (a fave) washi tape!!

The extra package

An awesome journal that Katyha named 'Recipes I Love'. Isn't her handwriting wonderful?  She then hand wrote several of her favorite recipes in the beginning of the journal, in her handwriting. I will add to this and treasure it forever!!  Katyha can be found at http://blog.lovekatyha.com or on Instagram @lovekatyha

The package I gathered up was sent to Florida to Bethany of Poeticpaper Post

This was bittersweet, I put this package together as my father in law was in the hospital dying. I had purchased and gathered everything before he went in the hospital. It was wrapped, packaged, decorated and mailed while he was in the hospital. That said, things like that tend to make me forgetful. So, since I did not take good 'before' photos, I am struggling to remember the contents. I do remember I sent a travel size package of Qtips...cause they make excellent impromptu paint brushes!  Also a couple of Sharpies ;my favorite markers, especially the brush ones), a roll of washi tape and some postcards (to represent me!). The postcards are vintage reproductions of Houston long ago!  Awesome!  I enjoy Postcrossing  I have a large stash of postcards, and a collection of written and stamped postcards from around the world!

I totally enjoyed doodling (mail art!) on the package!!   So fun, I hope Bethany liked her package.
