Life Goes On...

So much has changed since my last post.

Shortly after my last post, my good friend, Alice Anjo, became one of God's angels.  It was hard explaining that to Tanner.  He had known her his entire life.  I miss her everyday.  Her blog is still up...it is a wealth of information.  http://aliceanjo.blogspot.com/

My father in law is currently in ICU, we need a miracle. (Jan 29, 2014)

This post has been a draft for a while, I need to just post it. (Well, the first paragraph was the draft).

Life goes on, right?

Dyeing Fabric Workshop

Today was the Kingwood Area Quilt Guild's Workshop day. We went over to the talented Michael Cunningham's dyeing studio and dyed the day away. We did many new to me techniques. I really liked the quick and easy Shibori technique. It may take a week until I see how that one turned out!  There was traditional tie dyeing with rubber bands, too. We did some Deconstructed Screen Printing.
Here's Michael giving us a demo.
Here is Don after doing his D. S. P. We had two different screens.
Here he is working on his Soy Wax Resist masterpiece. He added more colors (pink?) and then used a diluted Marigold dye for the background. This will make a great center panel in a quilt one day. Can't wait to see it all rinsed out!
Here's my Soy Wax Resist piece in progress. I used some Alicia Burke styrofoam stamps, painted hot pink dye over those and then painted the background with Chinese Red. Awesome color!  Cannot wait to wash these out in 16-48 hours!!!
Here's the book we used for instruction. I ordered me one from Amazon while on my lunch break. Stay tuned for photos if the dyed fabrics!

30 Days of Lists, Day 30

Wow!  The last day. What seemed like a monumental task, has not been quiet so hard as imagined. I completed most of these posts while laying in bed, under the covers (to keep the light out of the huz's eyes) on my iPhone, using the Blogger app. Crazy, huh?

I will have to think of some things to blog about in the next few days.

Today, the last listing prompt is:

Today, I want to remember

1. All the cute ways Tanner mispronounces words.
2  How happy he was when I came home from retreat, and the big hug I got.
3.  How beautiful Janell was in all those wedding dresses last week.
4.  What a nurturing person that Jilla can be.
5. That Gabriel is making progress towards going to a university.

Tanner calls Gabriel Babe-riel   I love it! It is so wonderful to be loved by a grandchild. Best feeling in the world.
Isn't he a cutie?

Until next time!

30 Days of Lists, Day 29

Next Months Plans...

October, a good month in Texas, the weather usually cools down.

Things usually done in October are:

1. Raking leaves
2. Abigail's birthday party. She will be 5!
3. Finishing up Tanner's Halloween costume. He's gonna be a ninja.
4. Halloween Party at the Smallwoods!
5. Start thinking about Christmas.

I'm sure some wedding planning things will come up. Christmas will be here before we know it!

30 Days of List, Day 28

We started the day out at Whittington Bridal in Kingwood at 10am. Janell, Jilla and I were once again joined by my friend Fonda. By noon, she had said yes to a dress. It is made by an Australian designer, and has a Soanish feel to it. Besides being a lace dress, it is nothing like she went into this thinking she would get.

By 1pm we were at Tanner's soccer game. Normal, crazy Saturday.  Janell and David headed to the airport around 4pm.

Today's list prompt is:

In My Fridge...

Kraft Miracle Whip
Chelsea's Deli Spirelli
Boars Head Mustard
Kraft 2% string cheese
Organic fat free milk
Organic chocolate milk
Greek yogurt, key lime pie flavor
Blackberry and grape jelly
Egglands Best eggs
Beer
Cottage cheese
A cantaloupe
Apples, oranges
Land O Lakes unsalted butter
Fresh mozzarella cheese

It's kind of bare in there, we need to make a grocery store run!!!  I am a brand loyal consumer, a marketers dream!

30 Days of Lists, playing catch up

Oh my, how did I get so far behind?  Oh, I know...I went on a quilt retreat last weekend, stayed up late and got up early those days, Monday, the huz had a colonoscopy, at 6am, more lost sleep!  By Wednesday, I was caught up on sleep, but Janell and David arrived about 11pm!  Thursday evening was wedding dress shopping, today was just crazy, anyway...I am behind, and it is time to catch up!

30 Days of Lists, Day 21

Today was Saturday, second day of my quilt retreat. I made it to breakfast in time. I think it was only the second time ever!  My secret sister was really good to me. I will have to upload a photo. I mended one if Tanner's shirts, I sewed more scraps together. I made one of the Urban Chicken quilt blocks. Super cute! It is really cute.

Today's listing topic is:

My Food Pyramid

I love steak.
I love potatoes.
I love bread, especially crunchy crust, seeded, wheat bread. I like butter on it, but can survive without it too.
I love tomatoes, beans, broccoli, carrots, peppers, cucumbers, mushrooms, celery, crunchy apples (not red delicious), melons, watermelons, berries, and more.
I like dessert, but don't have it a lot. I love milk, too.

30 Days of Lists, Day 20

Today was an early start. My friend, Lish, picked me and all my stuff up at 930.  We met up with Alice, Susie and Charlotte at the Northpark Starbucks for breakfast and then headed up to Conroe for their quilt show. Enjoyed the quilts, saw friends, lunched at Panera Bread and hit the Quilters Quarters quilt shop before heading on to Camp Allen for the Kingwood Area Quilt Guild's annual retreat. It was a rainy, humid, miserable day. Now it's after 3am and I need to do today's list!  The topic is:

Comforting Me this Week

1. Alway, the huz
2. Tanner, saying he'd miss me
3. Tanner calling me tonight
4. Aunt Mona Rae calling today to make sure I knew about my dad's current worry
5. Knowledge that Gabriel is moving forward

30 Days of Lists, Day 19

Qualities I Admire in Others:

1. The Truth
2. Respect
3. Humor
4. Accepting
5. Sincere
6. Tolerant
7. Hygienic
8. Loving

As you can see, I obviously value the truth!  Always telling the truth means never having to remember your lies. I can get along with most folks, but it is easier to get along with tolerant, accepting people, more fun to get along with someone with a good sense of humor. Easier to respect someone who shows respect and sincerity and easier on the nose if they are clean smelling!!!!  :)

30 Days of Lists, Day 18

Help!  This is not a word I use very often. I can do it, usually.

Today the listing topic is I Ask for Help When

1. I can't reach something
2. My computer gets funky
3. Things need to come inside from in my car

I am vertically challenged. I am 5 foot 1/2 tall. I cannot reach things in my kitchen or in the grocery store. I have stood for 15 minutes, on an aisle, waiting for a tall one to walk by!  Though I have a computer technology degree, it is from the ice ages! (1981, 1982? Why can't I remember that?)  one good thing about having the kids still at home is using them for slave labor!  Bring in the groceries!  Bring in my sewing machine!  Yada yada yada!

I thoroughly enjoyed this one!

Lists, lists, lists! I have been working on a wedding guest list for Janell. I have been pinning away on her Pinterest wedding board. 30 Days of Lists, Day 12

FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT THIS MONTH

1. When I was a girl, school started this month
2. My oldest daughter was born this month, on September 7, 1983
3. My oldest daughter was proposed to this month, this year, on her 30th birthday
4. When we lived in Michigan, it meant apples!
5. It is not quiet as hot as July and August
6. Apple has a new (actually 2) iPhone out this month

I loved going to school, always.  Janell was due August the 4th, but was 5 weeks late, yes, really! I love and miss Ida Red apples from Michigan! It can still be horrendously hot in Houston in September!!!  I need a new iPhone!  I am out of memory.  It keeps freezing and frizzing.  My 2 year contract was up last month.  Gabriel has already renewed...he went to the darkside...droid.  Jilla and I are waiting till ours die, except I don't want to lose data!!!!  See everyone tomorrow!

30 Days of Lists, Day 11

I woke up with a terrible sore throat this morning. Never quiet woke up either!  I hope for a good night's sleep tonight.

Todays's list topic is:

7. How to camp and boat

I had a good childhood. I may have been oblivious to somethings. I learned, as a side note, to always be honest with my children. I like this generation much better, where we talk about our weaknesses.

30 Days of Lists, Day 10

The huz was home again today, recuperating from his knee surgery. He's walking around fairly well no crutches yesterday or today. Janell left early this morning to go recruit at Texas A&M, we then met up with her in south Conroe to look at a wedding venue. Belle Rose Maison.
It was gorgeous. Janell goes home early in the morning. She will be back soon, I am sure, to do some more planning.

Day 10's listing topic:

Meaningful gifts received

1. NOT a vacuum cleaner (he will never live this one down)
2. The awesome sewing machine I got the next Christmas
3. My 21st anniversary diamond ring.

30 Days of Lists, Day 9

Today Janell came home from Boston.  I was actually still in bed when she landed in Houston.  (Don't tell anyone! lol!)  She brought home lunch from our favorite Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant!  My Basil Chicken was delicious!  :)  We've spent the whole day talking Wedding!  She got to surprise Tanner at school pickup!  He did not know she was coming today.  She has a career fair at  Texas A&M  tomorrow.  She doesn't leave until Wednesday.  She'll be back tomorrow night and maybe we can get some more wedding talking going on!

Today's list title is:

Weird Stuff that Makes me Cry

1. When strangers do incredible things to help other strangers..
2. Laughing too hard!
3. Pregnancy

Unfortunately, I am kind of a hard ass and do not cry very much. Random Acts of Kindness that strangers bestow on other strangers is definitely the weird thing that makes me cry. I practically cried non-stop the two times I was pregnant!  Good thing that is not possible anymore!!!!

Wonder what tomorrow's email will bring?  I hope it is a little easier than this one was!!!

30 Days of Lists, Day 7

Today I Saw

1. The huz still sleeping peacefully
2. My daughter, Jilla, make breakfast for us all
3. My inlaws visiting their baby.
4. David facetiming me with THE news

So, in this case, Today was YESTERDAY, which was quiet eventful!  The huz had no problems sleeping after his knee surgery, he had a good night and a good day!  Jilla surprised us all by cooking cinnamon rolls, scrambled eggs and bacon for breakfast.  Jay had breakfast with us.  The two of them cleaned up...even better!  :)

My inlaws came over to see how their baby was doing after his surgery.  Just after they got there, I got a TEXT from Liz Atwood, alerting me that THE proposal was about to take place in Central Park.  I passed my phone back and forth to Jilla for the next hour, as Liz updated us.  Finally, my phone rang, it was David calling my phone for the first time ever...actually facetiming me.  I put him on speaker, and the two of them were in the screen!  Janell told us that she'd agreed to be his wife!  My inlaws were surprised, the huz was overwhelmed, I was so happy for her!  Such exciting news!  What a great birthday Janell had in NYC with David and Liz & Jeremiah Atwood.  So happy the secret is finally out!  David had asked for our blessing on Thursday, August 29, those 9 days about killed me.  I thought I would burst!!!  Whew!

Here's a photo of the happy couple!

Have a good day!  See you tomorrow!

30 Days of Lists, Day 5

I'm home from the quilt guild.  Was installed as First Vice President, in charge of membership, and Show and Tell, the Beekeeper and Lottery Blocks fall under my umbrella.  The guild voted on new by laws a few months ago.  Shook things up a bit.  More elected positions and took some of the pressure off the President by dividing the responsibilities out among the rest of us. Here's to a sucessful, stress free year!  :)

 1. Tanner started Kindergarten on August 26th.

Heidelberg Germany

I came along in the huz's suitcase on his business trip. We came here 6 years ago, when Jilla was pregnant and the twins were still in high school. This time they are 23 and on their own. As far as we know, the house is still standing.

We're staying at the Marriott, which is right on the Neckar river. I wish we were closer to the Hauptstrasse. We've had dinner down there twice.

We took a drive to Walldorf (20 minutes?) on Sunday. That is the little town we stayed in before. That little town is at least twice as big as it was 6 years ago. Could not find the restaurant we'd eaten at before. It must have been torn down in the name of SAP progress.

Here's a few photos from the iPhone.

A Surprise!

This morning, the huz had a 9am appointment in The Woodlands (what was he thinking?)

I missed Knitting Friday, but so did most everyone else! I hope Starbucks did not miss us too much!

After his appointment, we went to the Black Walnut for brunch, it was great!

After that we headed to Trader Joe's On the way there, I got a text from my oldest daughter, Janell, who lives in Boston. She was in Dallas, and stuck there until Monday because of the snow storm. She wanted to know if someone could pick her up at Hobby airport, I texted back that sure we could. So, we got our shopping done, drove back home to drop off the groceries, picked up the grandson at preschool, and told him we had to go pick up a package.

As we entered the RAMP into the airport, Tanner said...This is an airport, are we picking up Aunt Janell? That is one smart 5 year old! :)

Grabbed her, ran back across Houston, stayed at home for about an hour, ordered some Chinese/Vietnamese from our favorite...Hin's and went over to the inlaws to celebrate my birthday!

Thursday, March 7, 2013

Hello!

Hey, I got kinda sidetracked quick from posting! Oops! I'm back, and hope to do better!

Yesterday was my birthday! 55. Double nickel. I'll take buffalo nickels, thank you! I had a great lunch with friends, then Tanners first TBall practice of the season, and the the family went to 3Bs. A good day!
